Remove a Stump
Stump Grinding is vital if you’ve had a tree removed from your property and don’t want an unsightly stump ruining your curb appeal! Often, homeowners, business owners or property owners have trees removed but leave the stumps. The reasons stumps should be removed include:
- Stumps present a hazard for anyone walking or running in the yard
- Stumps are unattractive
- In some cases, the tree can be regrown from the stump

Stump removal is a challenging task that involves not just eliminating the stump at ground level, but also removing the root ball beneath the earth. Root balls grow along with the tree, expanding downward in all directions. This means once it’s removed, a very large hole remains where the tree once stood–especially if the tree was exceptionally large. In some cases, the root ball can be up to ten times the size of the actual tree.

Rather than unearthing and removing the root ball, stump grinding employs a commercial grinder to dice the upper parts of the stump and root ball into mulch-size pieces. These pulverized stump pieces can be used as mulch to assist in growing new grass or a garden where the tree once stood. Although the grinding process may not destroy the entire root ball, it should decay beneath the ground over time. Because the stump grinding process is less labor intensive and requires less cleanup, it is typically less expensive than full stump removal.
